TERI is involved with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Impact assessment under the UNDP-CCF-II, the afore-cited project is being implemented with the following objectives:- 1) Provide renewable energy for meeting cooking, lighting and motive power needs leading to additional income generation activities to enable the villages to cross the poverty line. For attaining this objective, an Incremental Capital Output Ratio (ICOR) of ?:1 has been benchmarked. Partnerships and savings need to be ensured for future investment and sustenance.

This study will cover the following the aspects. (1) Climatic requirements for growing Jatropha. (2) Considerations for site selection and jatropha cultivation. (3) Analysis of existing government policies. (4) Review of suitable models for undertaking plantation and production of biodiesel. (5) Selection of plausible technology for oil extraction and trans-esterification. (6) Infrastructure requirements. (7) Capital costs of plantations.

The workshop on “Membrane Bioreactors (MBRs) for Wastewater Treatment” was held on 6th November 2008 at TERI, in collaboration with UNESCO Center for Membrane Science and Technology, University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia. The workshop aimed to (a) provide an overview of MBR technology and the research being conducted at TERI and UNSW (b) understand how MBRs could contribute towards a step-change in wastewater treatment in emerging economies like India (c) identify the customization requirements and research gaps that need to be addressed.
