This course highlights the importance of an renewable energy and energy efficiency for a sustained growth process. Professionals holding at least a Bachelors degree, and involved with researching, analyzing and/ or implementing renewable energy and energy efficiency projects and programs along with development policy, are encouraged to apply. The course has been designed to be interactive presentations, field visits along with some practical component and will be carried out at TERI New Delhi (at RETREAT) and Bangalore (TERI-SR).

The disposal of plastic waste has become a major environmental concern, considering the ever-increasing consumption of plastics. Bioplastics like PHB (polyhydroxy butyrate) from microbial sources is a viable alternative but they are expensive. An alternative is to use cheaper and naturally available renewable biopolymers from agricultural feedstocks like starch, amylose, soyflour etc. However, their hydrophilicity and poor mechanical properties are a major hindrance to their usage.

The aim of the project is to incorporate green design principles for the upcoming hostels and ancillary support buildings of the Dept of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of Gujarat, in different regions of the State. TERIs services in terms of providing inputs for green building design would include guidelines and design inputs for site planning, water efficieny, waste water treatment, energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, use of eco friendly materials, achieving indoor air quality and solid waste management.

Under this project, TERI would collaborate with HPCL for carrying out a feasibility study for Jatropha based biodiesel production in the states of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. The study would take into account, the policy environment in terms of not only the policy initiatives of the GoI, but also the policy initiatives adopted by the respective state govts. It would also evaluate different plantation models that could be developed for biodiesel production: 1. Private Farmers Land 2. Community land 3. Govt.

The objectives of the Mobility for Development project are to raise awareness of the importance of mobility as a driver for economic development, including mobility related supply chains from the developing to the developed world; to close the mobility divide through business initiatives for innovative companies concerned about the divide; and to propose sustainable mobility solutions for rapidly growing cities in the developing world, including active participation of businesses, governments and policy makers.
