The Energy Research Institute campus does not use air-conditioning. Instead, it has been designed with air tunnels to cool by removing hot air and replacing it with fresh air. This keeps the ambient temperature inside the rooms in the campus at a comfortable level.

Experts at the World Sustainable Summit have emphasised that data-driven policies are crucial in addressing air pollution and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) — two pressing issues impacting millions worldwide. Speaking at the concluding session of the summit, Dr Soumya Swaminathan, Chairperson of the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation, highlighted that indoor pollution is a major contributor to outdoor pollution, disproportionately affecting women's health.

Researchers discovered a substantial reduction in stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana. From 2015-2016 to 2022-2023, fire occurrences diminished by around 49 percent in Punjab and 72 percent in Haryana. Nevertheless, at the same timeframe, Delhi persisted in experiencing acute air pollution each winter. Mr Suresh Ramasubramanya Iyer, Senior Fellow and Area Convener, Air Quality Research Division, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) New Delhi, stated this new insight facilitates the formulation of more effective air quality policies through targeted, evidence-based interventions.

Referring to the TERI report, officials highlighted that road and open-area dust significantly contribute to poor air quality. Dust accounts for 38-42% of PM10 in summer and 23-31% in winter, while its contribution to PM2.5 ranges from 31-34% in summer to 15% in winter. Dry conditions and high wind speeds during summer exacerbate the issue.
