This component deals with activities in the foundry sector and is part of the TERI-SDC partnership programme Competence Network for Small and Micro Enterprises. The overall objective of the programme is increased adoption of resource-efficient technologies amongst targeted end-users, with special focus on small and micro enterprises.

TERI has been one of the strategic partners of SDC since 1994. TERI and SDC have partnered in diverse research areas ranging from energy efficiency improvements in small-scale industries to global climate change. Continuous informal exchanges, openness and flexibility have been the hallmarks of the partnership. Projects focusing on improving energy and environment performance and socio-economic conditions of energy intensive small-scale industrial sub-sectors have been the flagship activity of the partnership.

The main objectives of the project is
- To evaluate energy performance of various energy intensive equipments/process with a view to identify thrust areas for energy conservation.
- To recommend remedial course of action for improvement of efficiency in process/equipment to reduce the energy consumption with cost considerations.
- To quantify the extent of energy savings that can be achieved after analyzing the likely reasons for excess energy consumption based on the field measurements and data collected.

Objective of the project is to develop Project Design Document and Project Information Note for 4.5 MW Hydro Power Project near Belgaum, Karnataka, being undertaken by M/s Gokak Textiles Ltd. The power generated from the project would be used in the textile plant.

This integrated watershed development project is proposed to be implemented in Joshu- Bhakru village of Semaltagad Micro-Watershed in Dehradun, Uttaranchal. The project aims to transform the target community into a model village as a replicable example of sustainable rural development. It will ensure long term availability of water resources for the rural community through interventions aimed at a catchment level rainwater harvesting and rejuvenation of traditional water harvesting systems.

The objective is to promote thermal gasifier technology in select clusters of namkeen- and koya-making industries and customizing the product to suit the selected application. The activities will be sustained by the selection of suitable LSPs (local service providers). With due capacity-building, the manufacturer and LSP would able to promote the market and take care of operation and maintenance. Further, strategic plan for replication of systems in the intervened sectors and establishment of QA and QC (Quality Assurance and Quality Control) measures will be done.
