Detection and control of microbial-induced corrosion in oil and gas pipelines through a biotechnological approach
The project aims at development of efficient detection strategy of MIC (microbial induced corrosion) causing microbial strains in the pipelines so that the extensive damage is prevented by not allowing these microbes to colonize in the pipelines. Another strategy of work in this project is aimed to standardize a method to control the population of MIC causing microflora either by using biocides and/or by changing the nutritional regime. The outcome of the project will be very useful to the oil and gas industry. Currently there is a huge economic loss to the oil and gas industry due to extensive corrosion caused by the microbes in the pipelines.
