UNEP co-operates with TERI on LaBL Campaign

UNEP co-operates with TERI on extending lighting facilities to India under the Lighting a Billion Lives Campaign by way of Small Scale Funding Agreement. With support from small scale funding, lighting facilities will spread to atleast 10 villages/schools with the installation & commissioning of solar lantern charging stations, by working closely with LaBL Partner Organizations.

The primary task of TERI under this project is to assess the investment and financial flows to address climate change for selected key sectors. For the same, a UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) methodology, which is partly based on UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) Secretariat?s Investment and Financial flows relevant to the development of an effective and appropriate international response to climate change, will be used. Asian Cities Climate Chnage Resilience Network is working in 3 cities in India namely Surat, Indore and Gorakhpurto to conduct city risk assessment for climate chnage and stakeholder consultations to come up with resilience responses for the cities. TERI would engage as a policy hand to the network and would be involved in the city consultations, would reiew the city resilience plans and results of the city risk assessments and do a policy synthesis review of the related policies in India, to alter recommend required policy interventions for facilitating urban adaptation for Indian cities.Creating corporate responsibility

Project CARE (Creating Awareness and skills in youth for Responsibility towards Environment), a TERI-Accenture initiative, focuses on life skill development (for livelihood generation), specifically targeting low income communities in environmentally vulnerable localities. The objective of this study is to prepare and characterize carbon membranes, assess their filtration performance and compare the performance with commercial products. The preparation of the carbon membrane involves coating a slurry of powdered activated carbon mixed with binder on biomass fly ash filter supports. The project involves providing technical guidance to Nansen Environmental Research Centre (NERCI), Kerala, India for successful implementation of project titled "Water quality monitoring and low cost purification strategies for inland waterways of low lying areas" on behalf of UNEP and Asia Pacific Forum on Environment and Development (APFED) at IGES. The project implemented by NERCI is of two year duration.
