This study is supported by the International START Secretariat for a cross-comparative analysis of three South Asian cities - Bangalore (India), Colombo (Sri Lanka), and Dhaka (Bangladesh) - with a view to suggesting implementation strategies for an effective efficient PRT (public rapid transit) system. Beneficiaries of the study include the scientific community, policy analysts, and local transport authorities.

This project entailed preparation of an appropriate financial package for project affected persons (PAP) who are inhabitants of squatter settlements in path of the proposed alignment of one of the lines of Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) in Delhi. This vulnerable population is squatting on land belonging to Indian Railways and are likely to be evicted with no compensation and the concomitant adversities. This financial package was based on a comprehensive study that entailed a detailed review of the R&R policy and legislative environment in Delhi.
