Transforming Energy Access in South Asia and Africa towards renewable

August 1, 2017
| Energy
| Energy Access

This research and innovation programme will deliver new technologies and robust evidence on the critical barriers hampering systemic change and scaling up energy access, working with Southern researchers and entrepreneurs, to drive locally relevant innovation and delivery. This will have a transformative impact on deploying renewable energy solutions in developing countries, especially in South Asia and Africa.

Development of sludge free, clean, green and cost-effective technology at bench-scale for treatment of textile and dyeing industry effluent

July 18, 2017
| Waste
| Environment

The main objectives of this project are: 1. To develop a bench scale photocatalytic reactor (PCR) specifically targeting such organic dyes which are in dissolved state, highly toxic, recalcitrant/non-biodegradable in nature and constitution, present in the effluent of textile & dyeing Industry.

Development of polyolefin composites loaded with co-microencapsulated intumescent fire retardant system along with nanosized wear resistant additives

July 17, 2017

In this study a high temperature charring agent i.e. propane terephthalamide will be synthesized. This will be co-micro encapsulated with APP in melamine-formaldehyde resin. The microcapsules thus developed will be blended along with nanosized silicon nitride in LLDPE, PP, LDPE and HDPE. The microcapsules will enhance the fire retardancy. Thus, the developed blend will have effective fire retardancy.

Roadmap and action plan for implementation of a market based instrument for GHG reduction for the MSW sector in India

July 9, 2017
| Climate Change
| Waste

This Assignment will involve following two components: (i) Designing of a new Market Based Mechanism (MBM) with the following key steps: (a) Baseline assessments and setting the scope; (b) Determining and setting mitigation targets along with time-frame; (c) Ensuring market stability through design features like a price collar; (d) Setting up an oversight and compliance mechanism to enforce the target; (e) Stakeholder discussions and buy-in; and (ii) Providing policy recommendations and roadmap for implementation of the select MBM.

Strengthening Non-state Climate Action in the Global South

July 1, 2017
| Climate Change
| Environment

This project aims to fill two crucial gaps in the world's response to climate change by generating an evidence base to expand the participation and leadership of climate action by cities, companies, civil society groups, and other sub/non-state actors in the Global South, as well as the effectiveness of such action.

Clean energy roadmap for Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands

July 1, 2017
| Energy

The project undertakes a comprehensive study on the greening of Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands. The objective is to study the options in de-carbonization of the energy portfolio for these islands and outline strategies for moving towards a low carbon pathway, in line with India's INDCs.

Replacing kerosene for solar in households for lighting

June 30, 2017
| Energy Access

The project aims to develop a business case for redirecting / re-routing kerosene subsidies in India towards the solar product value chain, and in essence, to replace the use of kerosene for basic lighting at the household level by making comparable solar based lighting alternatives available and affordable.
