Policy and regulatory issues in the context of large-scale grid integration of renewable energy in Gujarat
September 2, 2011 to
April 30, 2013
Large-scale grid integration of RE (renewable energy) power brings in a number of issues pertaining to policy, technical and regulatory in nature especially in case of intermittent sources like wind and solar. Generation mix in a grid should be such that it not only follows the load pattern but also responds to the sudden load changes. Increased share of intermittent power poses difficulty in grid operation. Further sudden changes in power flow in EHT transmission lines could also happen.
Identification of Win-Win Adaptation Options through Adaptation Metrics and Integrated Adaptation Decision-Making Frameworks
June 7, 2012 to
April 23, 2013
The current status of climate change adaptation is characterized by ad-hoc decision-making mechanisms without a means to measure the progress in adaptive capacity of people and systems under question. Effective adaptation is best achieved by knowing beforehand the possible impact of adaptation otpions on the adaptive capacity of the system under consideration.
Pre-project: Climate Change as an Opportunity towards Adaptive Sustainable Aquaculture
January 1, 2011 to
April 5, 2013
The main objective in this pre-project is to build a holistic and integrated knowledge base that enables a quantitative analysis of the dynamic two way itneractions between climate change and aquaculture sector in a future full-project.This objective will be addressed through the following three main work packages. (1) Climate change impacts on aquaculture; (2) Aquaculture impacts on climate change; (3) Formulating future adaptive strategies.
Bioleaching of heavy metals from spent catalyst used in petroleum refineries and scale-up studies
May 18, 2010 to
April 2, 2013
Bioleaching of metals like Ni, Mo, V from spent petroleum refinery catalyst using Acidiiobacillus thioxidans which utilizes sulfur to produce sulfuric acid and metabolites which enhances the leaching process of metals from the catalyst matrix.Scoping Study on Fostering Resource Efficiency in India - A key for sustainable growth
September 15, 2012 to
April 1, 2013
The aim of the study was to understand the rationale and scope for promoting resource efficiency in India. The focus of the study was particularly on minerals and metals. The study looked into the current and future patterns of primary and secondary production and consumption of minerals and metals in India. The study also analyzed existing policies and schemes to understand India's approach to resource efficiency and the relevance of 3R concept for India's economy.
