Training Course on "Development of Clean Development Mechanism Projects under Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry: Theory and Practice"

TERI was selected by the Ministry of Environment and Forests to conduct a one-week training course for Indian Forest Service officers on "Development of Clean Development Mechanism Projects under Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry: Theory and Practice."

The course started with a background on the science of Global Warming and Climate Change; response of International community-UNFCCC (1) Kyoto Protocol and Marrakesh Accord (2) Latest Negotiations under COP; and the Indian perspective of the Climate Change Negotiations.

After the background presentations, basic concepts of CDM and LULUCF were explained, followed by the CDM project cycle. The participants were then introduced to the more intensive topics of methodological issues in preparation of PDD (baseline, monitoring methodologies), selection of carbon pools, stratification, sampling, data recording, models and equations for estimating ex ante and ex post carbon removals, etc. The course curriculum comprised of lectures, presentations, case studies and field visits. Following the field visits, the participants carried out hands-on group exercises on carbon models and preparation of PDD.
