Sustainable biomass-based model for rural electrification
Under the framework of country co-operation UNDP has sanctioned the project titled "Decentralized rural Energy Systems for the Integrated Development of Komna block, Nuapara District of State of Orissa, through Orrisa Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA). OREDA under the program intends to disseminate biomass-based village electrification system for lighting purpose in two villages of Komna Block namely Deodhara and Senapalli. The main emphasis of the project is to disseminate community managed, community owned decentralized energy interventions. The program aims to disseminate renewable energy technologies/devices for individual and community use. It envisages installation of community based energy system like biomass gasifiers, large biogas plants, solar PV power plants, etc. on demonstration basis. The program further proposes to institutionalize operation and maintenance networks, within the community. The activities pertaining to meet the project objectives are broadly categories into (i) Rural Electrification, (ii) Forestry, (iii) Renewable Energy Programmes and (iv) Area-based Programmes.
