Lighting up 100 villages in Uttar Pradesh through partnership with Humana People to People India
The journey of light in rural villages of Rajasthan began with just two villages (Banganga and Jodhula) in June, 2008. Today, it has spread across two districts viz. Jaipur and Alwar taking the number of villages to 34. Realizing the immense success and great acceptability among rural communities, the Partner Organization, a well recognized name, Humana People to People India (HPPI) decided to take its operations to another state. This time, HPPI also decided to contribute some efforts in raising money for the campaign from their side and take up the implementation of the LaBL model across 100 villages in Uttar Pradesh. HPPI had gained enough experience of the campaign including aspects such as hardware installation, commissioning, training exercises, coordination etc. This had been possible by virtue of TERI's continuous efforts in order to build capacities among its partners at the rural grassroots level. HPPI together with USAID, the US-based bilateral funding agency, has undertaken a project called "Community Development with Solar Energy Illumination" in Uttar Pradesh. TERI's support in terms of its rich experience in renewable energy sector as well as by providing co-funding for 50 villages out of the total 100 played an instrumental role in anchoring LaBL in the state. The project has already commissioned 80 solar charging stations with 60 lanterns each.
