Developing integrated river pollution management framework

01 Apr 2020

TERI proposes to investigate the current situation of two river basins of India, the Yamuna and the Musi which are struggling with the problem of pollution, using ‘Systems Thinking’ approach. ‘Systems thinking is the process of understanding how things influence one another within a whole’.  The goal is to understand the complex interconnections between various components of the river basin system including technical, social, economic, environment, institutional and policy related aspects and provide holistic solution. This approach will generate a variety of options for looking at the issue of water pollution. During this exercise possible set of solutions to manage the river water pollution and improving the access to clean river water would be identified. The recommendations would be used to develop an integrated river pollution management and implementation framework and would deal with all the aspects holistically.
