Develop an Air Quality Progress Report (AQPR) for India

The main objective of this project is to provide independent overview and analysis of status and trends of air pollutant emissions and air quality concentrations in India, impacts and policy response, for use in policy processes and decision-making during policy implementation. The assessment will serve as a platform and convening venue for analysing and synthesizing the most uptodate and policy relevant information. As policy and decision-making will be in relation to improving air quality, it will energize existing efforts and build upon established government processes, in particular Central Pollution Control Board activities. The assessment will produce a comprehensive presentation and air quality status of India and its journey from the past, health risk load due to air pollution and the control actions/strategies implemented for air pollution reduction. An important aspect of the assessment process, will be undertaking it in close consultation with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), providing additional capacity to CPCB and State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) to tackle air pollution. The air quality related activities in India will be assessed, especially in terms of meeting the combined challenges of the NCAP and SDGs. This will deliver a clear understanding of the governance implications that have affected or will affect the implementation of control measures (mitigation potential, impacts, implementation obstacles, and opportunities for progress) and the support of an institutional landscape to foster their implementation. It will also stimulate close collaboration between the scientific and policy communities.
