Collaboration with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Business action on climate change
Activity IX: Business Action on Climate Change
Norwegian Partners: Business houses, Business councils, Consultancy firms
For the past several years, TERI has been addressing issues related to sustainable development with the Indian industry, by setting up TERI-BCSD (Business Council for Sustainable Development) India, which is currently a network of 98 of the most prominent, motivated and environmentally conscious corporates.
TERI-BCSD India is also the Indian partner of the WBCSD (World Business Council for Sustainable Development), Geneva and a member of its regional network.
With time, scientific evidence has mounted on the severity and spread of climate change and its impacts. The corporate sector will have to move beyond treating climate change as a corporate social responsibility issue and treat it as a key environmental condition shaping corporate strategy. Any corporation that hopes to survive into the middle years of this century must start looking at its direct and indirect use of energy and ways of reducing it drastically. Under this project, TERI-BCSD India proposes to enhance the capability of the business sector to innovate, by focusing on research based initiatives in close alliances with Norwegian enterprise(s), to fast track business action on climate change . This partnership would facilitate an initiative to develop new ideas and approaches through learning by sharing methods.
