With just five years left to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR, 2024) highlights pressing needs to accelerate SDG implementation and transformation. The report demonstrates ideas and best practice experiences on how this could be achieved. India, as well as Germany will present their Voluntary National Review (VNR) at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) in New York this summer 2025.

With these experiences at hand both countries can showcase obstacles and opportunities for preparing meaningful VNR and draw conclusions on how to trigger synergies of SDG implementation and transformation for Climate and Biodiversity protection and Sustainable Development. Advancing these solutions requires collective action and collaboration across stakeholders, including governments, multilateral institutions, the private sector, and civil society.

The thematic track aims to deliver actionable recommendations and strategies to mobilise action for SDG implementation.

Policy Recommendations/ Outcomes

Adopt Integrated and Coherent Policy Frameworks Across Sectors: Participants stressed the need for cross-sectoral integration of sustainable development, climate action, and biodiversity goals. Sustainability must be embedded at the core of all policy decisions, avoiding fragmented approaches and aligning efforts across government, civil society, and the private sector to ensure cohesive action.

Promote Public Engagement and Private Sector Transformation: The session highlighted that public communication and stakeholder engagement are essential to sustaining momentum for SDG implementation. In addition, it underscored the need for evolving business models and de-risking green investments to foster private sector participation and long-term support for sustainability objectives.
