Workshop on 'Rural Solid Waste Management'
TERI, in collaboration with the Solid Waste Management Cell (SWM cell) Department of Science and Technology, Goa and with support from Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, organized a one-day capacity building programme on 'Rural Solid Waste Management' on February 2, 2015. The workshop was conducted for the panchayats across Goa for building capacities of sarpanches, panch members, panchayat secretaries, and other officials in having an effective solid waste management plan for their respective panchayats.
The programme aimed at creating a platform for an intensive discussion on issues related to solid wastes at the panchayat level. It raised awareness to promote best practices on solid waste management.
The programme was inaugurated by Mr Jose Manuel Norohna, Chairman, Goa State Pollution Control Board and Mr Kewal Sharma, Chief Secretary of Government of Goa who was the guest of honor to the programme. Ms A Gadre, Technical manager, SWM Cell DST, provided a brief overview of the current solid waste management scenario at the global, national, and regional level.
