Workshop on the 'India Energy Outlook'
The International Energy Agency, TERI, and NITI Aayog organized a workshop titled 'India Energy Outlook' on April 13, 2015. The workshop was a part of the IEA's 2015 edition of the World Energy Outlook, which plans to have an in-depth focus on India. The inaugural session of the workshop included keynote addresses and special remarks by Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of State with Independent Charge, Ministry of Power, Coal, and New and Renewable Energy, India; Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State with Independent Charge, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, India; Dr Fatih Birol, Chief Economist, IEA; Dr Leena Srivastava, Acting Director General, TERI; Dr Arvind Panagariya, Vice-Chairman, NITI Aayog, India and Dr VK Saraswat, Full-time Member, NITI Aayog.
The workshop brought together policy makers, government officials, academicians, and other experts to analyze the various aspects of India's energy sector and its prospects in 2040. It was divided into 5 sessions that focused on the drivers and the uncertainties behind India's future energy demand, the issues that influence the development of the power sector in the country, the outlook of supply and trade of fossil fuels, and the options to steer India's energy system to a more secure and sustainable path. The inputs from this workshop will be used to augment the IEA's approach to India's energy future.
