Workshop on 'Creative Librarian 2.0: Connect, Collaborate and Share Knowledge using Social Media Platform'

TERI in partnership with DEF (Digital Empowerment Foundation) organized a two- day workshop on Creative Librarian 2.0: Connect, Collaborate and Share Knowledge using Social Media Platform from August 06-07, 2015 at TERI, New Delhi. This event is supported by Deity, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. In his Special Address Mr Prabir Sengupta, Distinguished Fellow, and Director, Knowledge Management Division, TERI, stressed on the library’s proactive role for skill development by adopting new social media technologies and methodologies. He encouraged the participants for continuous interaction to share their experience and best practices on a quarterly basis. The Keynote Address was delivered by Mr Osama Manzar, Founding Director, DEF wherein he spoke about DEF’s experience in using social media as a powerful media in educating and empowering the masses even in rural areas. The Inaugural Address was delivered by Dr R.K.Chadda, Addl. Secretary, Lok Sabha, Parliament of India.

A total of 32 librarians from academic and corporate sectors all over India participated in the workshop. The objective of the workshop was to empower librarians to use social media for increasing the visibility and access of libraries and information centres. The sessions dwelt on topics on dynamics of social media management, building social communities and engaging user communities with library resources. Apart from resource persons from TERI, experts from Google India, , IIT-Delhi, World Bank, British Council and DEF engaged the participants in interactive sessions.
