Webinar on Standards for fostering Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy in India
Standards are crucial for mainstreaming resource efficiency and circular economy as they establish specifications and procedures designed to ensure the reliability of materials.
TERI is organising a webinar on 'Standards for fostering Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy in India', on 13th July, 2 pm-4 pm (IST) in association with the EU- Resource Efficiency Initiative (EU-REI) Project and the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India.
In light of the present Covid 19 situation and the Indian government undertaking a series of sector specific measures towards green growth, resource efficiency and climate resilience, it becomes imperative for the business sector to develop innovative strategies, new models of prosperity based on sustainability, protection of ecosystems, resource efficiency and climate responses.
However, certain factors need to be addressed to ensure that economies and business are reshaped with circularity being at the core. This calls for multi-stakeholder collaborations to facilitate the transitioning to resource efficiency (RE) and circular economy (CE). Standards are crucial for mainstreaming RE and CE as they establish specifications and procedures designed to ensure the reliability of the materials including secondary raw material, products and components made using these materials, methods adopted and services provided.
Topics for discussion at the webinar include the role of standards in the post COVID era on building resilience through circular transformations, opportunities in India's existing standards and certificationsSchemes for mainstreaming RE and CE across products and processes, and importance of the lifecycle perspective. Further challenges that are faced with respect to standardisation of recycled and reusable materials will be discussed and experiences from European context would be shared for addressing some of these challenges.
