The COVID-19 pandemic has caused massive disruption to the Indian economy. Energy consumption collapsed during the lockdown, but it has now recovered back towards pre-pandemic levels. However, the pandemic's mid-term economic impact is unclear, and it is therefore uncertain how fast India's energy demand will grow in the future.

Understanding COVID-19 impact

This question is linked also to the stimulus measures and structural reforms undertaken or planned by the Government of India, which could play a substantial role in reshaping the energy system in the short and medium-term. This webinar will focus on how India can create opportunities for a green and inclusive economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The key questions to be addressed will essentially include:

  • What is the likely impact of COVID-19 on the economy and Indian energy system in 2020 and the next few years?
  • What are the key strategies for inclusive and green recovery for sustainable growth best suited in Indian policy landscape?
  • What are the challenges, gaps and opportunities to plan and implement these green recovery actions and strategies in the Indian policy landscape?
