Training programme on 'Urban Climate Change Resilience in India'
The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), New Delhi in association with the Department of Urban Development, Government of Uttarakhand organised a training program on 'Urban Climate Change Resilience in India' on 8-10 April 2015 in Dehradun. This capacity building program was supported by the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN).
The training program included a day long sensitization session for elected representatives from various cities in the state. This was followed by a two day duration sensitisation program targeted towards city officials from various urban local bodies in the State. The inaugural session was graced by dignitaries like: Mr D S Garbyal, Secretary, Urban Development Department, Government of Uttarakhand; Mr Pritam Pawar, Hon'ble Minister, Urban Development; Dr V Shanmugham, Additional Secretary and Director, Urban Development Department, Government of Uttarakhand and Mr Vinod Chamoli, Mayor, Dehradun. They encouraged the participants to actively participate in the program and urged them to make the program as interactive as possible. The programme introduced the key officials to various topics like: Application of GIS tools and techniques for better urban planning; Climate modelling and its role in city assessments; Risk and Vulnerability Assessment methodologies; Financing mechanisms for implementing urban resilience. The participants were awarded a certificate upon successful completion of the program.
The program was made possible with the support and cooperation extended by Mr Navneet Pandey, Additional Director and Mr Subhash Gupta, Deputy Director, Urban Development Department, Government of Uttarakhand.
