TERI-ITEC Courses 2017-18 Course III - Trade and Sustainable Development: Issues for Developing countries
About TERI-ITEC
TERI is empanelled by the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), Government of India, for this programme. Under the TERI-ITEC programme, eight courses are being offered for the year 2017-18. These are: Energy Access and Human Development, Climate change and Sustainability, Trade and Sustainable Development: Issues for developing countries, Applications of Biotechnology and its regulation, Energy and Water-use Efficiency, Renewable Energy and Energy efficiency, Natural resource security: Governance, Challenges and Opportunities and, Integrated approach towards sustainable development.
Each individual course is a three-week long residential programme conducted in India, attended by participants from other developing countries. The courses are designed to meet the needs of senior and mid-level government and non-government officials from ITEC countries.
Advantages of attending the course
- Increased understanding of various dimensions of climate change, energy-efficient technologies, biotechnology, trade, sustainable development, water use efficiency and resource governance.
- Dissemination of practical knowledge to the participants on climate change, energy-efficient technologies and understanding of pillars of sustainable development through field visits.
- Wider exposure to India, as the course lectures are complemented by study tours.
Bachelor's/Master's degree in any discipline; work experience of 2 years
Number of participants - 30
The course provides an introduction to multilateral and regional trade regimes, global institutions and sustainability, multilateral environmental agreements, and trade linkages. It has a special focus on developing country concerns and south-south trade especially in the context of designing trade policy to promote sustainable development. Trade in resources and agricultural goods receive special attention in the deliberations.
Government of India will bear the following expenses for the selected candidates:
- Return international airfare by excursion/economy class
- Course fees and book allowance
- Accommodation - Hostel
- Living allowance @ INR 25,000 per month on pro rata basis. Candidates are, among other things, expected to meet the expenditure for their meals from this amount.

Applicants can apply for ITEC training program by filling up the Online Application Form and take a print out of filled form. This form is to be submitted to the nodal/designated Government Department/Agency of applicant's country. The nodal department/agency will in turn forward the applications to the Embassy/High Commission of India. Selected participants will be informed by the Indian embassies/high commissions in the respective ITEC countries.

Hostel accommodation for the participants would be arranged at the TERI Retreat.
TERI Retreat is a training complex located a mere 35-minute driving distance from the heart of Delhi in Gual Pahari, Gurgaon. Away from the hustle-bustle of the city, this 36-hectare training complex is a perfect example of sustainable, green, and productive habitat created through application of scientific methods and technique. It showcases the concept of modern green buildings. Apart from residential facilities, the complex has a library, well-equipped IT resource centre, a state-of-the-art laboratory, and other facilities.
