TERI-ITEC Courses 2015-16: Course IV - Applications of Biotechnology and its Regulation
The TERI-ITEC program, 'Applications of Biotechnology and its Regulation' was conducted from December 7-25, 2015. This Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India-funded was aimed at providing the participants with training in theoretical concepts and experimental protocols in the area of Biotechnology. The course covered topics such as applications of plant tissue culture, biofertilizers, biopesticides, genetic engineering, bioremediation, biofuels, livestock biotechnology, medical biology and related regulatory framework on environment, biosafety and bioethics. The participants were taken to the TERI Himalayan Centre in Mukteshwar to witness the sustainable agriculture technologies implemented in the rural farms and the Pantnagar University to witness the various agriculture R&D activities and engineering practices as part of the study tour. As part of the cultural experience, they were also taken for sightseeing to Delhi, Agra and Nainital. Participants showed a high level of engagement in the course topics and expressed interest to continue and follow up association with TERI and India.
