Sensitization workshop on 'Connecting Curriculum with Environment and Local Issues'
TERI organized a sensitization workshop on 'Connecting Curriculum with Environment and Local Issues' at Naipunnya Public School, Kochi on 12 July 2014. Shri V K Ebrahim Kunju, Hon'ble Minister for Public Works Department, Government of Kerala inaugurated the workshop and said, "children are the best ambassadors of the society who can spread the message of environmental awareness and protection of natural resources for a cleaner, greener society". Fr. Benny Maramparambil, Principal; Fr. Joshy Puduva, Manager; Fr. Varghese Alukkal, Bursar, Vice Principal, Head Mistress, and President, PTWA from Naipunnya Public School, Kochi; and Dr Amitabh Bachan, Director, Western Ghats Hornbill Foundation, Thrissur were also present on the occasion. Sessions on 'local environmental issues and concerns'; 'importance of environmental awareness and conservation of natural resources at school level'; 'influence of TERI programmes and projects including GREEN Olympiad in enhancing environment quotient of students' were conducted. The ultimate goal is to create an environment conscious, informed, national and international school network. Competitions like 'Quiz' and 'Poster Making' on 'Natural Resources were organized for students on this occasion and certificates along with prizes were awarded to the winners. More than 300 participants including students, teachers and parents from 43 schools attended the workshop.
A similar workshop was also organised at ‘Vishwadeepthi Public School, Adimaly (Kerala) on 11 July 2014. Fr. Tomy Nambiaparampil, Principal, Viswadeepthi Public School, Prof Dr Giji K Jospeh, Department of Zoology, Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha, students, teachers and parents were present on the occasion.
