COP 28 Debriefing: Contextualizing COP 28 Outcome and way forward for COP 29
The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) is organising a panel discussion session 'COP 28 Debriefing: Contextualizing COP 28 Outcome and way forward for COP 29' on Tuesday, 16 January 2024, from 11:00 – 13:00 hrs (IST) at TERI headquarters, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
Through this panel discission our aim is to put into perspective, the outcome of recently concluded UNFCCC- COP 28 in Dubai. COP 28 captured many headlines for launching the Loss and Damage Fund, and the pledges taken by countries to triple their renewable energy share by 2030. It is imparative to contextualise the all important outcomes, how it would affect Indian policy landscape.
Additionally, there were many important issue areas that were left open ended during COP 28 for next COP, scheduled for December 2024 in Azerbaijan. These issues may potentially become major agenda for COP 29, few to mention are global goal on adaptation, and international carbon market, and long-term finance. It is needed to thoroughly analyse India's negotiating prioritites, its current climate policy, and the domestics circumstances, in order to rightly place itself for the COP 29 negotiations.
The key questions to be considered for the discussion are:
