भारत की जनसंख्या अभी 1.04% की सालाना दर से बढ़ रही है। 2030 तक जनसँख्या 1.5 अरब तक पहुँचने का अनुमान है लेकिन इतनी बड़ी जनसँख्या का पेट भरने के लिए खाद्यान उत्पादन में अनेक समस्याएं हैं। जलवायु परिवर्तन न सिर्फ़ आजीविका, पानी की आपूर्ति और मानव स्वास्थ्य के लिए खतरा पैदा कर रहा है बल्कि खाद्य सुरक्षा के लिए भी चुनौती खड़ी कर रहा है। ऐसे में यह सवाल पैदा होता है कि क्या भारत जलवायु परिवर्तन के खतरों के बीच आने वाले समय में इतनी बड़ी जनसँख्या का पेट भरने के लिए तैयार है?
